2017 seasonal tips

In Greensboro, August is technically the second hottest month of the year. And while it is technically not the driest month of the year, it sure has been felt that way so far. As a result, many plants, flowers, grasses and even some trees are struggling.

Be sure to water your outdoor garden and areas around your home regularly. Be sure that a combination of rain and hand watering adds up to at least 1" of water per week. Use an inexpensive rain gauge to check.

For potted plants, windowsills and decorative flowers, a good watering at least every other day is a good idea. However, remember that over-watering can eliminate beneficial nutrients in soil, so be careful not to overdo it.
