You may have already noticed it in the calander, but just in case you didn’t, this weekend is the great back yard bird count.
What is that? I hear you ask. Well, basically, it provides researchers, and those of us interested in birds, an idea of bird populations throughout the United States.
How it works is for at least 15 minutes on Feb. 13th through 16th you watch the birds in a location of your choosing and enter the counts on the GBBC website. This gives everybody involved a snapshot of what birds are where throughout the country and lets scientists and researchers know how stable (or not) populations are, and if any problems need to be addressed. Check out the website for more info.
